Text Box: Welcome to my Web site, a place where you can find out a little bit more about Carol Steward, the Christian, the wife, mother, grandmother, author and full-time administrative assistant. Oh, and you might want to know a little more about my books. So sit back, relax, (grab a donut) and let's get started. . . Real life. . . I met my husband when I was in 7th grade math class and he was in high school helping as a teacher's aide. He was cute, smart and believed in God. Goal. Did I mention that I love math to this day? Motivation. We belonged to the same church, and he was serious about another girl. Did I mention that he was a senior? So he went off to college, broke up with the unlucky woman, and asked me to go out. Thus the hopeless romantic was born. Fast forward to MY senior year, when he whisked me away so he could finish his college degree and I finished my high school diploma. Thus, my understanding of the writer's mind. Create characters with insurmountable odds against success. Conflict. Real love. . . We've been married, raised three wonderful children (it seemed much easier at the time), and now we're thrilled to spoil our grandchildren (and get a little revenge on their parents while we're at it.) Thirty years later and we count our blessings that God started out as the core of our relationship. That deep faith has carried us through almost thirty years together and I adore him more than ever. Real struggles. . . Raising our children seems much easier looking back than I'm learning it really was. As my sons love reliving all the tricks they 'got away' with, I realize more than ever the importance of raising our kids as God's children, not our own. As I was visiting with my mother, we discussed that being a mother not only isn't easy, it never gets easier, even when the house is empty. My husband and I have been blessed with health and strength, working multiple jobs at once. I think our record was 5 and 3, I had 5 while he worked 3. We're down to 2 and 1 now, all three kids are happily married, and the struggles continue. I call that Research. Growing up with a law enforcement father, I’ve always been interested in the law. My husband worked as a part time park ranger for several years, passing along that gene to my son, who is now a fourth generation of law enforcement in our family. All we have to do is look around and see unjust struggles happen to everyone despite their financial status, their beliefs, their best intentions. The writing lesson here, make things worse for your characters. Conflict, conflict, conflict. Real faith . . . Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen. Most everyone has had times in their lives when they aren't walking quite as straight of a line in their walk with God. I've had many of them, as you can imagine with working 5 jobs at one time. Something's gotta give. Unfortunately, taking time for my spiritual health often came last. What I've discovered in the last few decades is that life is a LOT like writing. The more struggles we have, the more we tend to search for answers. And always, I reach up to God for guidance. In His word, I don’t always find an easy or immediate answer, but I do find directions to surviving the challenges of real life. I find the path to happily forever after.
